Jax
You home?
Lynn: No, whatâs up?
We need to talk.
Lynn: Iâm headed to Jamaica. Can it wait until I get back?
No. Are you at the airport already?
Her dots bounced against the screen, and I knew it was because she was trying to decide whether she wanted to lie or tell the truth. I had no doubt that Lynn was probably about to go out of town, but I was aware of her routines. Sheâd spend the last two days before traveling getting herself together and shopping. She was either at the mall, with her friends, or getting her hair and shit done. Not wanting to give her time to come up with a lie to avoid me, I called her. It took damn near five rings, but she answered eventually.
âYes, Jaxon?â
âWhere you at?â
âOut, whatâs up?â
âI wanted to talk to you about this face to face, but since you bullshitting, Iâll tell you right now. Iâm going to see about getting you a separate suite when I get to the hotel.â
âWhat? Why?â
âThereâs really no reason for us to live together.â
âSince when, Jax?â
âSince always, but I did it because I didnât have a reason not to.â
âBut now you do. Itâs the girl from the bar, isnât it?â
âRegardless, we donât have to live together, Lynn. If we ever need to have people over, I can come to your place to make the appearance, or you can come to mine.â
She chuckled. âYouâre saying that now, but the next time we talk, youâll be telling me the agreement is over.â
I didnât respond right away because that would be happening soon. I needed to find a way to get out of the contract without having to pay her father the millions he invested in me back. Though, if I had to, I would to be with Mia.
âWhen are you coming back home?â
She sucked her teeth. âTwo weeks. I leave in two days.â
âOkay. Thatâll give me enough time to make sure the suite will be available for you.â
âYeah, whatever, Jax.â
Lynn ended the call, and there was no doubt in my mind that her father would be calling me soon. Either way, I didnât give a fuck. I was committed to doing everything I could to take full advantage of this second chance Mia was giving me, and I meant it when I said I wasnât going to let anything stand in the way of that.
Iâd stepped out to make the call because Mia was still asleep. I wasnât surprised, because we didnât go to sleep until a little after seven, and it was only two in the afternoon. When I went back into her bedroom, she was awake. I was glad because I needed to get home and freshen up before heading to work, but I didnât want to wake her up prematurely.
Instead of joining her in the shower when I heard it cut on, I went to her guest bathroom and showered to make sure we didnât have sex. I wanted to, but I didnât want her to think that was all I wanted from her.
